During Interaction

These options determine how the object reacts to moves, drags, nudges, rotations, and changes to the focus parameters.

Dragging either the light or focus control point will override any of the lock settings.

Lock location of Light / Focus

Determines which point remains fixed when reshaping the beam. When Throw or Plan Distance is locked, moving the beam will move both points together.

Lock Length of Height / Throw / Plan Distance

Determines how the relationship between light and focus points is maintained when the beam reshapes.

Lock typeHeightsThrowPlan Distance
MoveLight/Focus lock determines fixed point, and the beam reshapes, moving the non-fixed pointBoth Light and Focus point move, maintaining beam shapeBoth Light and Focus point move, maintaining beam shape
RotateRotating affects the pan, keeping the fixed point constant
ThrowLight/Focus lock determines fixed point, and the x/y coordinates of the non-fixed point to adjust the new throw.Light/Focus lock determines fixed point, and the beam reshapes to the new throw with the pan and tilt remaining constant.Light/Focus lock determines fixed point, and the z height of the non-fixed point adjusts to the new throw.
PanBeam rotates around the locked point
Tilt / Angle to FaceLight/Focus lock determines fixed point, and the beam reshapes, maintaining hanging and focus heightsLight/Focus lock determines fixed point. Beam shape remains constant, maintaining the throw as it tilts and adjusting the non-fixed point. The x/y locations of both the light and focus remain constant, with the z height of the non-fixed point adjusting to the new tilt.

Use Cases

Determining how high to hang a light on a boom

Insert the beam at the focus point.

Move the Light control point to the boom location in plan.

Lock Focus and Plan Distance

Set the Angle to Face

Optionally, adjust the Hanging Height to a rounded dimension

Determining where to hang an FOH truss

Insert the beam at the focus point.

Lock Focus and Throw

Set the ideal Throw and Angle to Face parameters

Visualizing a diagonal wash from an existing position

Use the Draw Light to Focus mode to insert the beam, clicking first on the position and then the approximate focus

Lock Light and Heights

Nudge the beam to adjust the focus, fine tuning diagonal coverage

Lighting hanging scenery

Lock Light and Throw

Adjust the Tilt to change the height of the focus plane to the center of the scenic element
